Who we are.
We are the Knights of the Southern Cross WA.
Inspired by our faith, we’re a group of Catholic men who seek to serve others, support our clergy and contribute good to the world. Through our work, we hope to not only help those in need, but protect and strengthen the future of the Church going forward.
How we began
Our Order was formed in Sydney in 1917, in response to intolerance facing Australian Catholics in the early 1900s. During the 1920s and 1930s, branches of the Order rapidly sprang up in WA, starting in Perth. For over 100 years, the Order in Western Australia has helped look after the local community through our range of charitable projects.
Our credentials.
We’re a member of the International Alliance of Catholic Knights (IACK), officially recognised by the Vatican in accordance with the Code of Canon Law. Through IACK, we work with other Catholic men’s organisations around the world.
We also hold strong relationships with Archdiocese of Perth, Dioceses of Broome, Bunbury and Geraldton, Southern Cross Care – Western Australia, Catholic Education Western Australia and University of Notre Dame Australia.
Our Mission.
Knights of the Southern Cross WA help the local community in many ways, such as aiding the elderly, the young and the sick, supporting religious vocation, developing leadership potential in young Catholics and assisting with projects in local parishes. Inspired by our Patron Saint Mary McKillop, our mission is:
1.
To positively promote a Christian way of life in our local and wider communities.
We are proud Catholics and want to encourage others to live a life of faith.
2.
To live in the spirit of service.
We do this in accordance with the Gospels, focusing on educational, charitable, religious and social welfare work.
3.
To be dependable and loyal men of faith.
We are here to support our clergy and keep the Church strong through future generations.
4.
To lead with honour and actively promote a strong Australian nation.
We are determined to contribute good and be men of action in our West Australian community, in Australia and in the wider world.
5.
To be supportive Christian brothers to one another.
We look after our members and their families, offering friendship, fraternity and social and spiritual support.
