In Faith
We Serve.
We’re a group of Catholic men who come together to encourage faith, support clergy and contribute good to our West Australian community. Supported by Australian Bishops, we’re part of an historic national fraternity that aims to help people in need, encourage spirituality and serve where we can.
A community of brothers helping others.
If you’re a Catholic man keen to give back and join a likeminded community of friendly faces, we’d love to chat more about becoming a Knight of the Southern Cross. We’re looking for dependable men with the same values, faith and commitment, as well as different skills and talents. Talk to us today about what’s involved in becoming a member and all the different ways you can help give back.
Supporting where we can.
Knights of the Southern Cross help our local community in many ways. We relieve poverty and distress for families through financial assistance, and have funded Catholic educational scholarships, both here and overseas. We support independent living units through Southern Cross Care, supported living apartments, nursing homes, hostels and special care cottages for our senior community. We also support religious vocation and develop leadership potential in young Catholics.
A long and proud history.
Our Order formed in Sydney in 1917, in response to the intolerance Australian Catholics faced in the early 1900s. During the 1920s and 1930s, branches rapidly sprang up in WA, starting in Perth, then Fremantle and Kalgoorlie, and continuing in Albany, Esperance and Carnarvon. For more than 100 years now, Knights of the Southern Cross WA has helped the local community through our charitable projects.
Our Patron Saint.
We’re guided in our work by Saint Mary of the Cross MacKillop, who dedicated her life to ensuring education was accessible to all. St Mary co-founded the Sisters of St Joseph of the Sacred Heart as well as other schools and welfare institutions throughout Australia. Canonised in 2010, she is the only Australian to be recognised by the Roman Catholic Church as a saint. We are proud to continue her work supporting those in need.
We’re here to help.
